The Crown of the Polish Sudetenland is an interesting initiative that encourages you to explore the Sudetenland on your own. Its peaks represent the entire cross-section of geological and natural phenomena of the region and allow you to discover what is most beautiful in each range. See what specifically belongs to the Polish Sudetenland Crown, and learn how to earn a badge for entering all the mountains on the list.

What are the summits in the Sudetenland?

The Sudetes is a very extensive mountain range located in the area of Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany. Basically, it is divided into 3 parts: Western Sudetenland (highest), Central Sudetenland and Eastern Sudetenland. These, in turn, differentiate the mountain ranges — there are more than 30 of them, if the Sudeten Przedgórze and West Sudeten Foothills are also included in their accounts. The highest peaks of each range include the so-called Crown of the Sudetenland. The map in this case takes into account 31 mountains scattered throughout the chain.

The list of the Crown of Sudetes of Poland includes, among others, the borderly located Śnieżka (1603 m above sea level). It is considered the highest point of the entire Sudetenland, and interestingly, also the Czech Republic. At the same time, it is the most outstanding mountain in Poland — it towers over the immediate surroundings by as much as 1203 meters!

Among other interesting peaks, some of which are part of the Crown of the Sudetenland of Poland, we can also mention:

  • Wielki Szyszak (1509 m above sea level) — Giant Mountains,
  • Labski Peak (1471 m above sea level) — Krkonoše Mountains,
  • Śnieżnik (1425 m above sea level) — Śnieżnik Massif,
  • Szczeliniec Wielki (919 m above sea level) — Table Mountains.

How to get the Crown of the Sudetenland?

In order to earn the badge, which is awarded by the Mountain Tourism Commission of the PTTK Branch in Wałbrzych, you must gain all 31 summits, which includes the Polish Sudetenland Crown. The confirmation book should be submitted for verification at the headquarters of its initiator, in Wałbrzych. Only after the positive passage of this stage are the diploma - legitimacy and the right to wear the badge are awarded.

The aforementioned booklet of the Crown of the Sudetenland badge is possible to buy stationary, in shops related to hiking, and online, on PTTK websites and online bookstores. It is small in size and does not take up much space in the backpack, so you can and even need to always have it with you while earning another point from the list of the Polish Sudetenland Crown. The book notes the date of the trip, the name of the summit and the route of the hike. Field confirmation of the expedition is also required: a stamp that can be obtained on the way or at the top, or the signatures of guides, forefathers and instructors organizing the expedition.

The Crown of the Polish Sudetenland, and therefore the booklet, are intended for people after the age of 8.

Where to go to the mountains of the Sudetenland?

The Sudetenland offers a wide range of opportunities for active recreation, and their great diversity in terms of terrain means that everyone will find something for themselves. However, your expedition can be planned to take into account at least partly the same as the Polish Sudetenland Crown. The map of peaks in the Kłodzko Basin itself and its immediate vicinity includes, among others:

  • Owl Mountains: Great Owl (1015 m above sea level),
  • Bardzkie Mountains: Kłodzka Gora (765 m above sea level),
  • Noworudzkie Lowering: Włodzicka Góra (758 m above sea level),
  • Lowering Ścinawka: Nowa Kopa (553 m above sea level),
  • Table Mountains: Szczeliniec Wielki (919 m above sea level),
  • Orlickie Foothills: Grodczyn (803 m above sea level),
  • Orlické Mountains: Orlica (1084 m above sea level),

  • Golden Mountains: Postawna (1124 m above sea level),
